Affordable and Enriching Child Care & Afterschool and Summer Care

Finding and affording quality child care is a struggle for many families, especially those with limited financial resources. It is crucial to advocate for solutions that address this issue at all income levels. Investing in subsidized child care programs, expanding affordable child care centers, and exploring cooperative daycare arrangements can help alleviate the burden on parents and provide young children with a nurturing and enriched environment. When a child turns 6 yrs of age, they are not equipped to be home alone, so afterschool and summer care are also needed.  It is also an opportunity to enrich experiences and develop career aspirations. Adolescence is the second time of active brain development; youth need positive adult guidance when they are not in school. Care for older children and youth provides a positive alternative to boredom and negative pursuits. Over 62% of US employees are women and they still carry the norm of primary responsibility for children.  It is a benefit not only to the family but also to employers to have employees who are not worried about their child’s safety and activities while they are working. Employers also gain by helping to develop future employees. Accessible and affordable care for children and youth is not only a matter of economic equity but also an investment in our children's future and society's overall well-being. Let's work together to find sustainable and inclusive solutions for all families, ensuring that every child has access to quality care that stimulates their learning while their parents work or pursue education.
